Surgical Retractors for Sale - Sternal, Spinal, Mini-Access and Universal Retractor Systems
Retraction is what makes the operative field possible. The incision creates access; retractors maintain it throughout the case. In most procedures, an assistant holds retractors manually - which means that the quality of exposure the surgeon has for the critical steps of the operation depends partly on the assistant's stamina, attention, and consistency. Self-retaining retractors remove that dependency, locking the exposure in position so both the surgeon and the assistant can focus on the work rather than on maintaining a window into the operative field.
The range of retractors in this category reflects the range of access problems different procedures present. Cardiac surgery through a median sternotomy needs a sternal retractor that spreads the sternotomy widely and maintains that spread through hours of precise intra-cardiac work. Spinal surgery through a posterior approach needs retractors that hold the paraspinal muscles laterally to expose the lamina and facets without fatiguing the assistant over a long case. Minimally invasive procedures need retractors calibrated for small incisions. Neonatal cardiac surgery needs everything scaled to a chest cavity the size of a fist.
The surgical retractors at NJ Medical Instruments are manufactured from CE-certified surgical-grade stainless steel at the company's Sialkot facility, autoclavable, and sized appropriately for their respective surgical contexts.
Sternal Retractors - Cardiac Surgery Access
The sternal retractor is the central instrument in open cardiac surgery. After median sternotomy, the two sternal edges are retracted laterally to expose the pericardium and heart. The retractor needs to hold this spread for the duration of the procedure - anything from two to six hours in complex cases - without slipping, without fracturing sternal bone at the blade contact points, and without obstructing the surgeon's access to structures near the sternal edges.
Morse Sternal Retractor
The Morse Sternal Retractor is the adult cardiac surgery configuration - blade depth and spread range calibrated for standard adult sternotomy access. The ratchet mechanism maintains sternal spread without requiring manual pressure, and the blade profile distributes retraction force over enough sternal surface to reduce the risk of sternal fracture at the blade contact point. CE-certified, autoclavable.
Cooley Neonatal Sternal Retractor
Congenital cardiac surgery presents a scaled version of the same problem - a smaller sternotomy, a proportionally smaller heart, and structures measured in millimetres rather than centimetres. The instruments must follow the same scaling. The Cooley Neonatal Sternal Retractor is designed for infant and neonatal cardiac surgery, with blade size, spread range, and ratchet increment all calibrated for the neonatal chest. For paediatric cardiac surgery units, this instrument is not a substitute for an adult retractor - it is the only appropriate option for the operative anatomy involved. CE-certified, autoclavable.
Spinal and Neurosurgical Retractors
McCulloch Retractor Set
Posterior spinal approaches require the paraspinal musculature to be held laterally through the operative duration - in lumbar discectomy, laminectomy, and fusion procedures, this can be extended work that causes significant assistant fatigue with hand-held retractors. A self-retaining spinal retractor set that locks in position changes this dynamic completely.
The McCulloch Retractor Set provides the self-retaining retraction needed for posterior spinal access. The set configuration allows different blade sizes and depths to be applied depending on the level, patient size, and approach depth. CE-certified, autoclavable.
Minimally Invasive and Universal Access Retractors
Yan Mini-Access Retractor
Mini-access surgery - whether in cardiac, thoracic, or general surgical applications - creates a fundamentally different retraction problem. The incision is small by design, and the retractor must hold it open adequately for the instruments and the operative view without enlarging it. The Yan Mini-Access Retractor is configured for this constraint - providing adequate exposure through a limited incision. CE-certified, autoclavable.
Phantom CS Universal Distractors
The Phantom CS Universal Distractors provide adaptable distraction across multiple surgical contexts where a dedicated single-procedure retractor would be unnecessarily specific. The universal configuration suits surgical units performing varied procedures that need distraction capability without maintaining a full procedure-specific retractor inventory. CE-certified, autoclavable.
