SuperCut Scissors: The Razor-Edge Cutting Standard

SuperCut scissors pair one razor-honed blade with one micro-serrated blade, giving a noticeably sharper and more controlled cut than standard surgical scissors. On ordinary scissors both blades are ground the same way, and slippery or fibrous tissue tends to slide ahead of the edge instead of being cut. The SuperCut design solves that: the micro-serrated blade grips and holds the tissue while the razor edge slices through it. The result is a clean cut with less crushing at the edges and less force from the surgeon's hand. SuperCut instruments are identified by a black handle ring. NJ Medical Instruments manufactures the full SuperCut range in surgical-grade stainless steel, supplied worldwide direct from the factory for individual purchase and for bulk, wholesale, and OEM/private-label supply.

Why the two-blade design cuts better

The advantage is grip. A conventional blade pair has to trap tissue by pressure alone, so delicate or mobile tissue slips forward and gets crushed rather than divided. The micro-serrations on one SuperCut blade hold the tissue still at the moment of contact, so the opposing razor edge cuts through a stationary target. Because less squeeze is needed, the surgeon has finer control and the tissue edges stay cleaner — which matters most in fine aesthetic and reconstructive work where the closure has to heal invisibly.

Handling and care

A razor edge is sharper but also finer, so SuperCut scissors should be used on tissue and suture only — never on dressings, drapes, or wire, which will blunt the honed edge quickly. Handled properly they hold their cutting quality through repeated autoclave cycles, and tungsten-carbide SuperCut versions extend edge life further still.

Frequently asked questions

What are SuperCut scissors?

SuperCut scissors have one razor-honed blade and one micro-serrated blade. The serrated blade grips the tissue while the razor edge cuts through it, producing a sharper, cleaner cut with less crushing than standard scissors where both blades are ground the same way.

How do I identify SuperCut scissors?

SuperCut scissors are marked with a black handle ring. Tungsten carbide instruments carry gold handle rings, and a tungsten carbide SuperCut instrument may show both.

What is the difference between SuperCut and tungsten carbide scissors?

SuperCut describes the blade geometry — a razor edge paired with a micro-serrated blade for a sharper cut. Tungsten carbide describes the material, with hard TC inserts bonded to the cutting edges so they stay sharp longer. The two can be combined in one instrument.

Are SuperCut scissors worth it?

They are most valuable in fine dissection and delicate tissue work, where the cleaner cut and reduced hand force improve control and leave tidier tissue edges. For cutting dressings, drapes, or heavy material a standard pair is the better choice, as those materials blunt a razor edge quickly.

How should SuperCut scissors be cared for?

Use them on tissue and suture only, never on dressings, drapes, or wire. Clean and autoclave them following standard reprocessing, and keep them separate from heavier instruments so the fine edge is not damaged in the tray.

Do you supply SuperCut scissors in bulk or for OEM / private label?
