DeBakey Vascular Tissue Forceps – 2.0 mm Angled Tips

A vessel is a cylinder lying in a field, and a straight jaw approaching it has to be brought down almost onto the surgeon’s line of sight to meet it squarely. Angling the tips lets the jaw lie flat along the vessel while the shaft stays raised and to one side — so the full ridged face contacts the wall, and the operator can still see what the tips are on.

Full face contact is not a cosmetic point on a DeBakey jaw. The pattern grips atraumatically by spreading load across its whole ridged surface; if the angle is wrong and only an edge touches, the grip becomes a pinch at that edge and the atraumatic property is lost entirely. At 2.0 mm the tips are sized for the vessels this is used on — wide enough to present that full face, narrow enough not to obscure the anastomosis being worked on.
