Weil–Blakesley Through-Cutting Sinus Forceps

The Weil–Blakesley Through-Cutting Sinus Forceps differs from the standard grasping Blakesley in one decisive respect: the jaws cut rather than tear. A grasping forceps closes, holds, and the surgeon pulls — which strips mucosa beyond the intended margin and leaves a ragged edge that heals with scarring and synechiae. The through-cutting jaw closes against a sharpened opposing edge, severing exactly what sits inside the bite and leaving the surrounding mucosa intact.

Bite sizes run from 2.0 mm to 3.5 mm. Straight jaws serve the anterior ethmoid and middle meatus; the 45° angled version reaches superiorly into the frontal recess and posterior ethmoid, where a straight instrument cannot present its jaw squarely to the tissue.
