Cross-serration and teeth do different things, and this pattern uses both at once. The 2×3 teeth interlock through tissue — five points that hold a wound edge or a pedicle against real traction. The cross-serrated surface they sit on grips in every direction by friction, so tissue that squeezes between the teeth still meets a textured face rather than a smooth one.
That combination suits gynaecological work, where the tissue varies from thin peritoneum to a thick vascular pedicle within one procedure and the traction applied is substantial. Broad handles are the other half: holding dense tissue against that much pull means real closing force, sustained, and a narrow handle concentrates it into two fingertips until they tire. Spreading the grip across a wider surface is what makes the same hold sustainable through a long operation.
