Barsky Nasal Retractor, 10 × 55 mm – Reusable

The blade proportions are set by the nostril. 10 mm wide is about as much as an alar rim will accept without being stretched, and stretching it is not a neutral act — sustained tension on the rim through a long procedure causes swelling that outlasts the operation and distorts the very tip the surgeon is trying to assess. 55 mm of length then does the work that width cannot: the blade reaches deep enough to hold tissue apart along the whole corridor rather than only at its opening.

That combination is what makes the nasal interior workable at all. Without retraction the surgeon looks into a slit; with a blade on each side the cavity becomes a lit passage with room for an instrument alongside the line of sight. Being reusable rather than single-use matters for an instrument used in every case — stainless steel holds its polish through repeated sterilisation, and a polished blade reflects light into the cavity instead of absorbing it.
