Brown-type teeth make that possible without crushing. They are multiple fine rows rather than a single coarse pair, so grip is distributed across a wider footprint and the holding force needed at any one point stays low — cartilage is held firmly enough to measure and position without the tooth marks that a heavier serration leaves in a graft destined to sit under thin skin. The 12 cm length suits work at the nasal tip and dorsum.
