The Hartmann Ear Polypus Forceps in the regular model is the workhorse of outpatient ear canal work. At 14 cm (5½″) it is longer than the micro-length Hartmann variants used under the operating microscope—that extra length provides the working distance needed when the surgeon operates without magnification or with loupes, keeping the hand clear of the patient’s head and the line of sight open.
The jaw pattern grips polypoid tissue, wax impactions and small foreign bodies securely under traction. The spring tension is set for single-handed operation so the surgeon’s other hand can hold a headlight or speculum.
