Wieslander Breast Dissector, 45 cm – 3.5 × 5.5 cm Blunt Blade

3.5 × 5.5 cm is a very large working surface, closer to a paddle than a blade, and it exists to release tissue across a wide front in a small number of passes. The whole edge is blunt: at this size a cutting edge would divide anything it met, and the value of a broad dissector is that it opens a plane by pressure and lets denser structures deflect it rather than cutting through them.

The inverted “V” indent gives that broad edge a defined centre. A wide flat blade swept against the curve of a chest wall tends to slide sideways, following the curve rather than the intended line; a notch splits the leading edge into two points that engage independently, so the blade tracks straight and the surgeon can feel where its midline sits without seeing it. The gold grip marks the handle out on a table where several long dissectors of similar profile lie together.
