Castroviejo Tying Forceps – Diamond Dust Platform

A tying forceps is built around a flat area behind the tips, and that is where the suture is held during a knot. Tying is a pulling action — the thread is drawn across the platform and tensioned — so the grip must hold against a sliding load without cutting the filament. Diamond dust does exactly that: a microscopically rough surface with no edges, gripping by friction over an area rather than by pinching at a point.

Teeth or serrations would be wrong here. Both present edges, and an edge drawn along a fine monofilament under tension nicks it — a nick that fails later, after closure, when nothing can be done about it. The wide flat handle suits the same movement: knot tying is a repeated rotation of the fingers, and a broad grip surface lets that rotation be controlled without regripping between throws.
