A DeBakey jaw has no teeth at all. Instead it carries fine longitudinal ridges in an interlocking arrangement, so the tissue is held between two textured faces rather than pierced between points. That distinction was developed for vessels: a puncture in an arterial wall is a repair problem, and a crushed segment fails days later — neither shows up at the moment the forceps is applied.
Narrowing the tips to 1.5 mm keeps that atraumatic grip usable at a small scale. A wide DeBakey jaw is designed for a major vessel; at 1.5 mm the same jaw geometry works on fine vessels, thin flaps and delicate soft tissue where anything broader would obscure the structure being held. The Adson body gives a large hand fine control over a tip that small.
