25 cm puts this in a different class from the 12 to 18 cm patterns around it. At that length the surgeon’s hand sits well back from the tips, which is the only way to grip tissue deep in an abdominal or thoracic field without the hand filling the space above it. The trade is leverage: a long forceps amplifies every movement, so the grip at the tip has to be secure enough that small hand tremor does not shake the tissue loose.

That is what the pyramid-shaped carbide serrations are for. Pyramids grip in every direction rather than along one axis, and carbide holds that shape rather than flattening. The dissecting end adds a second function — the closed tips can be pushed into a plane and spread to separate tissue, so the instrument dissects and grasps without being exchanged in a deep field where exchanges are slow.
