Strandell-Stille Retractor, 17 cm – Blunt, 6 × 15 mm

Blunt or toothed is the decision this pattern forces before the case, and it is about what the tissue can take. A blunt tip presses tissue aside and holds by contact, which is right where the structure must not be marked or perforated — vessels, peritoneum, a thin flap. It will slide off a tough fascial edge that the toothed version would hold.

6 × 15 mm is a shallow, broad profile: 15 mm of width against only 6 mm of depth. It holds a long stretch of tissue edge while barely projecting into the wound, which suits a plane that opens sideways rather than downwards. At 17 cm the retractor reaches a moderate depth with the hand at the wound edge.
