At 13 cm this is a finger-held retractor, which is what hand and facial surgery calls for: the field is a few centimetres across, and a longer instrument amplifies every hand movement across tissue where a millimetre matters. The whole instrument sits inside the hand with no shaft acting as a lever.
Four sharp prongs then spread the hold across four points while still engaging tissue that a blunt prong would slide off. Skin and fascia in the hand are tough and mobile — blunt prongs press them rather than holding them — but dividing the load four ways keeps any single point from tearing through. That balance between grip and spread is what the four-prong sharp configuration exists for.

Our clinic ordered several of these. Our staff noticed the difference in quality right away. Much better than a few other suppliers we tested recently. This will probably become our standard option going forward.
