The Tilley Nasal Dressing Forceps is the standard instrument for nasal packing in most ENT clinics. The angled jaw is the reason: nasal work in the outpatient setting is done down a headlight beam through a speculum, and a straight forceps places the shaft and the surgeon’s fingers directly in that line. The Tilley angle moves them clear.
The 20 mm serrated jaw is long enough to grip ribbon gauze along a useful length — short-jawed forceps hold packing at a single point and let it fold or twist during insertion. Serration provides the traction to hold wet gauze and Merocel sponges that smooth jaws release.
