An ordinary skin hook ties up a hand for as long as it is in use, which in practice means an assistant standing still. Anchoring this one to the drape with a rubber band gives the same hold without anyone holding it: tension comes from the band, and it stays constant rather than drifting as attention moves.
That is a different kind of self-retaining from a ratcheted frame. There is no mechanism, nothing to seat and nothing to work loose — the tension is set by where the band is anchored and adjusted by moving it. In a small field where a ratcheted retractor would not fit at all, a hook on a band is often the only way to free a hand.

Our clinic ordered several of these. The Tebbetts Self-Retaining Skin Hook, 6” 15 cm feels durable and professionally made. The stainless steel feels solid and reliable. Glad we found this store.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but this deserved one. Our staff noticed the difference in quality right away. The mechanism feels smooth and dependable. Would definitely order again.
