Tebbetts Fibre Optic Breast Retractor – Smooth End with Suction

Smooth rather than toothed is the decision here, and it follows the tissue. Teeth hold a pocket wall securely but engage what they grip; a smooth end presses and releases without marking, which is the right choice when the blade bears on skin or the thin tissue at the pocket edge rather than on the muscle behind it.

The curved tapered blade works the same way — it follows the contour of the pocket rather than pressing a flat face against it, so the load spreads along the blade instead of concentrating at its edges. Suction clears cautery smoke at the point it forms, and the insulated shaft keeps the retractor out of the electrical circuit while cautery is in use.
