Tebbetts Aufricht Nasal Retractor, 12 cm – 9 mm Toothed Blade

Teeth on a nasal retractor are unusual, and they solve a specific problem: the soft tissue envelope over the dorsum is slippery and under tension, so a smooth blade slides off it as the surgeon works. Atraumatic teeth engage enough to hold position without penetrating the thin skin they are holding.

The curve works alongside them. A flat blade on a curved dorsum touches at one line and levers off; curving the blade lets it sit along the bridge instead. At 12 cm this is shorter than the standard Aufricht patterns, which suits the Tebbetts approach — the hand stays closer but the nose stays visible, since rhinoplasty is judged by looking at the whole nose rather than down into it.
