Morselizing is not cutting. The Rubin septal morselizer crushes septal cartilage in a controlled, repeated pattern until its internal structure breaks down enough to be bent and reshaped without springing back. Cartilage has memory; a deviated septum straightened by force alone will often return toward its original shape. Morselizing removes that memory.

The deeply serrated jaws deliver that crushing action across the full jaw face, and the jaws are slim enough to enter the nostril on either side of the septum and work the cartilage from both aspects. Double-action linkage multiplies hand force, which is necessary because cartilage is tough and single-action jaws at 20.3 cm would not generate enough closing pressure. Tungsten carbide inlays keep the serrations sharp-edged over years of that loading, and the 17.0 × 5.0 mm slip-on guard shields adjacent mucosa from the jaw during manipulation.
