Cushing-Brown Tissue Forceps, 18 cm – Brown-Type Teeth

18 cm is long for a delicate tissue forceps, and that length is the reason this pattern exists. In SMAS rhytidectomy the surgeon lifts a facial flap and dissects underneath it across a wide area; whoever holds that flap must keep their hand well outside the working zone. A 12 cm Adson would put the assistant’s fingers exactly where the scissors need to be.

Brown-type teeth are what make holding it for that long acceptable. Multiple fixation points divide the load so the flap can be held under steady tension for the length of a dissection without a mark forming where it was gripped — on facial skin that will be visible afterwards, that is the whole consideration. Cleft palate work asks the same thing: firm sustained traction on tissue that must not be crushed.
