Cottle Nasal Retractor, 15 cm – 4 Blunt Prongs, 10 mm

Recessing the outer prongs turns one retractor into two. Held lightly, only the two central prongs engage and the retraction is narrow and selective — for lifting a small flap or holding a single edge. Pressed further, the outer prongs come into contact as well and the hold widens across the full 10 mm. The surgeon changes how much tissue is being held by how the instrument is applied, not by swapping it.

All four prongs are blunt, which is the right choice inside the nose. The tissue being held is vestibular skin and mucosa over cartilage — thin, and directly visible in the result. Blunt prongs distribute their pressure and release cleanly; sharp ones would hold more securely but leave punctures in the lining of a nostril whose appearance is what the procedure is about. Four blunt prongs together achieve the grip that one sharp prong would, without piercing anything.
