Cottle Columella Forceps, 11.4 cm – 14 mm Jaws, Adjustable

An adjustable stop changes what a forceps can safely hold. Normally closing pressure is judged by feel through the fingers, which works on tissue that gives fair warning — but the fleshy septum and columella are soft, and by the time the surgeon feels resistance the tissue has already been compressed. Setting a screw stop means the jaws close to a fixed gap and no further, however hard the instrument is squeezed.

That matters because this forceps is used for traction, not just holding. The columella is grasped and pulled to lift the nasal tip and open the view to the septum and deeper structures — a sustained pull on tissue that will be visible in the final result. 14 mm jaws spread that pull across a broad area of the columella rather than concentrating it, and the fixed stop guarantees the grip is no firmer than the surgeon set it to be.
