Tebbetts Fibre Optic Breast Retractor – Toothed, Suction and LED

Suction is what distinguishes this version, and in a breast pocket it does a specific job: electrocautery generates smoke, and smoke in a closed pocket has nowhere to go. Within seconds the illuminated field is obscured by the very cautery the surgeon is using. Routing suction through the retractor evacuates it at the point where it forms.

LED rather than a remote fibre optic source means the light is generated at the instrument instead of carried to it. That removes the cable run to a separate box, and the output does not fall off along a light guide. The toothed blade holds the pocket wall from slipping as the dissection proceeds — the same hold as the plain insulated version, with smoke evacuation and illumination added.
