Lipoabdominoplasty works through a small incision over a very large undermined area — that is the technique’s advantage and its difficulty. The surgeon has to see and reach a plane extending most of the way up the abdomen while the opening stays short. A retractor for that job needs reach far beyond the incision it enters through.
At 23.5 cm this one is built for that geometry rather than for a conventional open abdominoplasty, where the wound itself provides the exposure. It was developed for the procedure rather than adapted to it, which is why the pattern carries both surgeons’ names — Saldanha in Santos, Brazil, who developed the technique, and Solz in Mannheim, who refined the instrument with Medicon.
