Reich Condyle Retractor, 17 cm – Fibre Optic Fitting

The condyle sits at the back of the jaw, reached through a corridor the surgeon is also looking down. Overhead theatre light does not follow that corridor — the retractor itself, the cheek and the ramus all shadow it — so the deepest part of the exposure is the darkest. A fibre optic fitting moves the light to the blade, so illumination arrives where the work is and travels with the instrument as it is angled.

At 17 cm the retractor reaches that depth with the handle and the light connection outside the mouth. The fitting is the reason to choose this version over the plain patterns: the same exposure, but visible. Where an assistant can hold a separate light or the approach is shallow enough for ambient light to reach, the uncoated versions do the same retraction for a fraction of the cost.
