McKissock Keyhole Breast Reduction Marker – 38, 42 or 45 mm

The keyhole is the pattern the operation follows. A breast reduction removes tissue in a defined shape — a circle where the new areola will sit, with limbs running down from it to the fold — and that whole outline has to be drawn before anything is cut. A circular marker gives only the top of it; the keyhole template gives the shape in full, including the limbs whose length determines how much tissue comes out.

Graduating the arms in centimetres is what turns a template into a plan. The limb length is a measurement, not a shape, and it differs between patients and sometimes between sides. Reading it off the instrument as it is positioned means the amount being removed is decided deliberately. The pattern is designed to be used alongside a Freeman marker, which sets the areola diameter while the keyhole sets the resection around it.
