Obwegeser Ramus Retractor, 22 cm – Stainless Steel

The ramus is the vertical arm of the mandible, and reaching it intraorally means working the full depth behind the molars. That is the longest reach in the Obwegeser group, which is why this pattern is 22 cm rather than the 16 cm chin or 20 cm mandibular rim versions.

At that distance the instrument is held almost entirely outside the mouth while only the blade works at depth, and every movement of the hand is magnified at the tip. Balance is therefore what decides how it handles: weight distributed along the shaft lets the blade sit still while a saw or drill works alongside it. The retractor is held in one position for long stretches during sagittal split osteotomies, so the blade must not flex under sustained load.
