Iris Thumb Forceps, 10.2 cm – Delicate Narrow Tip

The Iris pattern is short and narrow throughout, and both properties come from the same origin — it was made for work on the iris, inside an eye. At 10.2 cm the whole instrument sits in the hand with no shaft acting as a lever, and the narrow tip enters a space where a standard forceps would occupy most of the room it needs to work in.

What keeps it in general use well beyond ophthalmology is that many procedures have the same geometry at a different site: a small opening, shallow depth, structures a few millimetres apart. Dressing or tissue jaws then decide the job — serrations for flat material handled by friction, 1×2 teeth for tissue that must be held against traction. The balance is set so the tips respond to the fingers rather than to wrist movement.
